Rosali Announces ‘Slow Pain: Live and Solo from Drop of Sun’
The NC songwriter revisits her brilliant Bite Down LP with a session of stripped-down solo renditions. Listen to the first single, “Slow Pain (solo)”

One of our hands-down favorite releases from last year is Bite Down by North Carolina-based songwriter, Rosali. For an album that is so immediately inviting, Bite Down is deceptively complex. There are grounded Americana elements cut by sweet soaring vocals and fearless, yet subtle guitar work. These are beautifully crafted tunes that slowly unveil themselves to be more each time you hear them. A chorus or melody might have been the first hook, but listen to the depth of the lyrics. Catch that melting riff, shriek, or evaporating guitar line that wafts through, stings, and dissipates like ether. The songs rumble, come alive, shift, and plant their feet; limbs buoy, or wrap the torso like vines. There are layers to it.
Through her solo improvisational project, Edsel Axle, we’ve witnessed the power and intimacy of Rosali‘s electric guitar work isolated and uninhibited. Today, we learn that we’ll have the privilege of experiencing solo vocal and guitar versions of songs from Bite Down, beginning with the standout track, “Slow Pain.” While these promise to be stripped-down renditions, the beautiful thing about her work is that what we’re truly getting is certain aspects of her immense talent being amplified.
The following insight is copied directly from her account, @rosalimusic on Instagram
“It’s all make believe, you can go beyond
it now, if you want I can show you how”
This past spring I recorded a solo set of songs from Bite Down, for a small audience at Drop of Sun Studios in Asheville. This intimate performance will be available digitally via Merge on August 1st as well as a limited edition cassette you can grab at our west coast shows this summer.
You can now hear Slow Pain (solo), a song about perpetually feeling like you don’t belong to this world. My grief has only grown exponentially witnessing what is happening to humanity globally. All i have to say is Free Palestine, Abolish lce, No Borders. I belong to the Earth, not the empire. ‘ll be donating proceeds to children’s orgs, figuring out the best ones, but for now, heres a sad song.
