The Original Misfits Reuniting For Riot Fest! [For Realsies This Time]
It’s not a joke this time, folks.
Every goddam year there’s a post that gets exhumed on social media with someone crying werewolf in the form of an announcement that legendary frontman/cat owner/semi-regular photog assailant, Glen Danzig, has finally reunited with the The Misfits to play his first shows together with the groundbreaking horror punk outfit in decades. That fake news begins to spread like hell-fire along with the excitement, only to link to a Rick Roll, or something else informing you that you’ve just been duped again like an asshole — a quick reminder never to dream and that life is an endless loop of disappointment, only quelled by the realization that we all exist in a dark meaningless void of nothingness, anyway. Some spread the lie, after falling for the ruse themselve for the 6th consecutive year, because they want to zing their pals, while endless others are just so fucking hyped about something that they feared had no chance of ever occurring (and rightly so, up until this point) that they simply repost the info blindly, because they can’t wait to spread the news. Well… this time it’s real, folks… seriously — or, at least, we were informed that it was real through a very credible press release sent by the publicist of Riot Fest. Obviously, we figured that the best thing to do was post the news here, just to insure that the announcement was, at least slightly, more legit sounding than the Facebook posts that have burned you so many times before (and we mean “slightly”). Of course, we’re just going to turn around and post a link there next, with the hopes of watching everyone remain in denial for the next day or two, because they are just too afraid of being hurt again.
But again, THIS IS ABSOLUTELY REAL!!!
Here’s the deets, exactly as we received them folks, followed by a grainy old 1983 show in full.
THE ORIGINAL MISFITS REUNITE
Original Members – Glenn Danzig and Jerry OnlyWith long-time guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein
Set to Share Stage For the First Time Since 1983 as the Original MisfitsHeadline Riot Fest in Denver and Chicago
And they said it would never happen. Never!!
However, this September, Original Singer/Songwriter Glenn Danzig, Original Bassist Jerry Only and long-time Guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein – for the “First Time in Over 30-Years” – will be stepping onto stage together as “The Original MISFITS” to headline Riot Fest & Rodeo in Denver, CO (September 2-4, 2016) and Riot Fest & Carnivalin Chicago, IL (September 16-18, 2016).
From the time of their first gig in 1977, the MISFITS and their iconic imagery went on to become one of the most crucially influential, genre-defying bands to ever emerge from North America, the MISFITSsignificance extends well beyond the narrowed path of punk rock & hardcore. Although not cognizant of how significant they would become, what the MISFITS achieved in their initial six-year window deconstructed and redefined rock music.
All the while, the MISFITS with Danzig’s unmistakable voice, Only’s ferocious bass sound and the bands anthemic songs, melody-induced choruses and authentically bruising musicianship, cemented their importance with all ensuing generations, whether in arena-filled metal shows or in a sweaty 400-cap club in Tucson. And for the ‘First Time in over Three Decades,’ legions of diehard fans from around the world will have the opportunity to hear the Original Band that created thousands of bands in their wake.
Full line-up announcements for Riot Fest 2016 will be happening shortly.
