Animal Collective Announces “Love On The Big Screen” Single + 7-inch
The members of the NYC-born experimental noise-pop ensemble take time from their thriving independent careers to release a brand new track as a “collective”

Is it fair to claim Animal Collective as the Wu-Tang Clan of warped static-filled experimental technicolor Beach Boys-esque mutant hyperpop psychedelia? Probably not, but I just typed it anyway. It’s definitely not a pure one-to-one comparison, but there are a few similarities between the two that I feel I can stand behind. Both projects are from NYC, and each helped pioneer unique sounds and aesthetics in their respective scenes that, in many ways, went on to define their own subgenres and continue to inspire endless imitators. Most importantly, the members of both squads have forged independent music careers outside the unit, but reform when the time is necessary. The clan returns to the clan, and the collective returns to the collective, albeit with half the members and far less public drama or involvement from legal teams.
So far in 2025, Panda Bear has released the critically acclaimed Sinister Grift LP, while Geologist has collaborated with Douglas Shaw (Gang Gang Dance, White Magic) for a collection of swirling, hypnotic, and brooding soundscapes titled A Shaw Deal. Today, they reunite with bandmates Avey Tare and Deakin to announce the brand new ANCO single, “Love On The Big Screen.”

A limited-edition 7-inch single backed with the tune “Buddies On the Blackboard” will be released on August 1st via Domino. Avey Tare produced both tracks alongside Adam McDaniel, who engineered and mixed them at his Drop of Sun Studios in Asheville, North Carolina. Dave Cooley provided the mastering. The cover art and press photo are also credited to Avey Tare‘s government name, Dave Portner.
Preorders for the vinyl are available now through Domino.
