Run The Jewels Drop New Track, “2100” (feat. BOOTS)
“For everyone who is hurting or scared right now.. [This song’s] about fear and its about love and its about wanting more for all of us.” – Jaime & Mike
Well kids, Donald Trump has now been elected president and, as could be expected, people are losing they damn minds. I’ll admit that I was a little worried myself that I would wake up this morning and the world would be different. That’s why it’s comforting to see that folks are still out there aggressively pointing fingers and shaming each other. Keep it up America!!!
The good news is that hip hop powerhouse, Run The Jewels just decided to drop an early track, while we all await their highly anticipated third album RTJ3. Consisting of rapper/producer, EL-P and rapper/activist and hardcore Bernie Sanders supporter, Killer Mike, the duo became known early on for their over-the-top lyrical content often referencing absurd, almost cartoonish, levels of violence and vulgarity. With their previous album, RTJ2, however, they really began to infuse their work with the type of powerful, affecting, and hard hitting political and social commentary that has more commonly laced their respective solo efforts in the past. This new cut, “2100 (feat. Boots)” wasn’t intended to be be revealed this early, but, according to the pair, today just seemed like the right time to let it loose.
Check it out below, after the following message that accompanied it’s release:
“for our friends. for our family. for everyone who is hurting or scared right now. here is a song we wrote months ago. we werent planning on releasing it yet but… well it feels right, now. its about fear and its about love and its about wanting more for all of us. its called 2100. we hope it finds you well.
love,jaime and mike”
