Tim & Eric Reunite For New Sitcom, Beef House / Embark On Live World Tour
The new show brings the comedy duo back to Adult Swim later this year. The Tim Eric Mandatory Attendance Tour launches tonight (January 15) in Sydney Australia.
Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim initially began collaborating after meeting at Philadelphia‘s Tempel University more than two-and-a-half decades ago. The pair would go on to launch Tim&Eric.com as a means to promote their comedy shorts and cartoon strips, eventually gaining some attention for their web cartoon, Tom Goes To The Mayer, which was ultimately picked up by the Cartoon Network for its Adult Swim block. Retiring the show after two seasons, they followed it up with the wildly successful Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! It was that program that truly put them on the map with its trademark retro computer graphics cable access-style aesthetic accenting their absurdist, often uncomfortable, approach to comedy. For those familiar with their work, it’s hard to ignore how much their incredibly unique style has been consistently borrowed from by imitators since they came onto the scene.
The success that Heidecker and Wareheim have achieved has opened doors for them, both as a unit and in regards to individual projects separate from one another. They formed the YouTube comedy channel JASH along with Reggie Watts, Michael Cera, and Sarah Silverman, aside from their primary production company, Abso Lutely Productions, through which they have produced their aforementioned programs, along with shows like Jon Benjamin Has A Van, Nathan For You, Comedy Bang! Bang!, The Eric Andrew Show, and Magic For Humans, as well as films like Tim & Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie and last year’s political mockumentary, Mister America. Wareheim has gone on to play roles on critically acclaimed TV shows like Master Of None and The Office, while becoming a highly respected director who has done numerous videos for musical artists ranging from Major Lazer, Flying Lotus, Mr Oizo, and Tobacco to Blonde Redhead, The Bird & The Bee, MGMT, and Beach House. In fact, he’s even worked with Charlie XCX, Maroon 5, and Depeche Mode. Along with acting in and creating shows like Decker and On Cinema, Heidecker has released multiple albums of his own music through labels like Drag City and Jagujaguar. But like with any iconic duo, while it’s great to see how much ground they can cover apart from one another, it’s always welcomed when they get the act back together. That’s not to say that they don’t still support each other’s projects or work together, because they’ve definitely continued to do that, but Tim and Eric haven’t really made time to put out a full on TV show build around the both of their talents, for quite some time. The good news is that’s all about to change.
Later this year, Tim & Eric will return to Adult Swim with a brand new sitcom title Beef House, which the press release describes as “a multi-camera sitcom about five men – Tim Heidecker, Eric Wareheim, Ron Auster, Ben Hur, Tennessee Luke – and Eric’s wife Megan, living under one roof.” Elaborating on the premise, it states that “each week Tim, a laid-back rock-and-roll slacker, and his best friend Eric, a high-strung stay-at-home husband, find themselves in the middle of a madcap misadventure that can only be traversed with the help of their fellow Beef Boys.”
Beef House, which is written and created by Heidecker and Wareheim, will be produced in collaboration with their Abso Lutely Productions partner, Dave Kneebone.
Today also marks the first date of Tim & Eric‘s new worldwide live tour, which launches tonight at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney Australia. Second shows have also been added in Washington, DC, New York, Toronto and Los Angeles. For those of you looking to attend, tickets are available here.
