Watch New CZARFACE “BIZARRO” Video (ft. Tom Segura & Christina P)
After being namechecked on the track, comedian Tom Segura makes an appearance in the new video alongside his wife and podcast co-host, fellow standup, Christina P
Last year, for Record Store Day Black Friday, Czarface released their album The Odd Czar Against Us. Technically, it was their third project of the year, but it was their first straight ahead official studio release since their third LP, A Fistful Of Peril, dropped in 2016. Since then, the hip hop super trio comprised of MC Esoteric; Wu Tang legend, Inspectah Deck; and producer, DJ 7L; had been releasing a mix of RSD-exclusive novelty comic + vinyl instrumental projects and collaboration efforts with artists like MF DOOM and Ghostface Killah. But while The Odd Czar Against Us marks a return to the core trio of 7L, Deck, and Eso, it has, ultimately, lead to a much less likely collaboration with one of the most prominent stand up comedians in the game, right now.
Their references often lean more toward Marvel, but the lead off track for the new LP gives a nod to the DC universe with its title “Bizarro,” continuing with their reoccurring comic and superhero themes. During Esoteric‘s verse, the Boston rapper includes the line “So, catch me at your mom’s house, what up Tom Segura” referring to Segura‘s highly successful podcast, Your Mom’s House, that he co-hosts with his wife, fellow standup, Christina P.
The early Black Friday version had special variant artwork with the official album drop arriving on December 6th with a different cover. By the 23rd, it was clear that Segura had been made aware of his inclusion in the “Bizarro” lyrics. That’s when he appeared holding the album on Esoteric‘s official instagram account.
Less than a week later, Eso posted an excerpt from Segura speaking to Christina on their podcast about his shout out on the Czarface album. He was encouraging people to pick it up, while mentioning how honored he is.
Then, early last month, Eso posted a clip from 2 Bears 1 Cave, Segura‘s other podcast that he co-hosts with comedian and longtime friend, Bert Kreischer. In the segment, Kreischer asks Tom about who Czarface. He’d heard the song and, apparently, loves it.
Today, things have come full circle with the release of the official music video for “Bizarro” starring none other than Tom Segura himself. The scene is set by Eso falling asleep while listening to an episode of Your Mom’s House with his headphones on. He is then transported to the set of a recording of the podcast where he’s seated on a sofa next to DJ 7L, who, just like Christina and Tom, only speaks in reverse Twin Peaks Dark Lodge style. The “Bizarro” video was directed by Mike Pecci with cinematography by David Kruta. Check it out below.
