The gallery is offering a new print from the Melbourne painter with an order window of 72 hours and the profits goingn to a great cause

“Messenger”

We’ve been big fans of Jeremy Geddes for a good 15 years or so, ever since coming across his “Transient Series” featuring lost cosmonauts floating through urban landscapes. For such a specific theme, a surprising number of imitators have made careers off of recycling his trademark imagery, yet never with the same proficiency or emotion. Fortunately, the Melbourne-based painter’s bag of tricks contains no discernible bottom. Some of my favorite pieces are from his IMMATERIAL series and involve subjects hurtling through the air as if a sonic boom had propelled them through a window or the connecting wall of a home; the architecture blasting to pieces and suspended around them. Through his various techniques and approaches, Geddes generates photorealistic imagery that is never sterile or without soul. He has the impressive ability to stall motion in a manner that suggests force, power, and action within a freeze frame, while offering something undeniably tranquil, if not introspective. With works that are so visually arresting, he’s had over a dozen pieces licensed for use as album covers, including a 2018 Snow Patrol album, Wildness.

Earlier this year, Jeremy began publishing work-in-progress posts on his Instagram, while referring to a solo exhibition of new work he has scheduled for Thinkspace Projects in January of next year. The only time I’ve ever seen one of his paintings in person it was part of a group show, so the idea of a whole collection being on display is always something to get excited about. Now the news is gettng even better with the announcement that the gallery is releasing a brand new timed print with the award-winning artist.

Unless you have an extra $15k – $25k sitting around, the odds of getting your hands on an original Jeremy Geddes painting aren’t promising. He occasionally releases limited edition prints, but they often require entry into a lottery to even have the chance at purchasing one. Timed-editions are great, because they still allow you to get a limited-edition print without relying on luck or risk being shut out.

For those unfamiliar with the concept, a timed release consists of having an order window open for a set period of time and, once it closes, the run is capped at however many prints were purchased without that time frame. They will then be shipped to Geddes for him to sign and number, before being sent to the buyers.

The print going up for sale is titled “Messenger” (picture above) and replicates a 2018 painting that also sold through Thinkspace. The archival giclee print will measure 18 x 9 inches (45cm x 22cm approx.) and be printed on Moab Entrada 290gsm fine art paper by the folks at Static Medium in Los Angeles. They will cost $90 and will be signed and numbered by the artist. Compared to the $18k price tag on the original, this is a fairly screaming deal and is cheaper than what prints typically cost through Geddes‘s website.

If you’d like to own one of these but need some additional convincing, the sale of these prints is going to benefit a noble cause. When Thinkspace founder, Andrew Hosner recently lost his beloved partner, it sent ripples through an art community that knew and loved her. Unfortunately, along with the emotional impact comes a financial one.

Here’s the breakdown from Thinkspace

To celebrate our dear Shawn Mary Vezinaw Hosner’s incredible legacy and help us bounce back after her 15 month long battle with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, we have been publishing a special suite of fund-raising editions in tandem with our good friends at  Static Medium.

This new “Messenger” print from Geddes is the latest contribution to this series.
