‘Small Works’ Group Show 2025 @ Beinart Gallery [Melbourne]

The annual Small Works show has remained a consistent high point in the schedule since Jon Beinart‘s “online community for strange and imaginative figurative artists” transitioned from an online gallery to a physical space in 2016. Now in its 9th installment, the group exhibition is proving stronger than ever.

Although the beinArt Collective began as a platform to highlight the work of its founder and a small group of fellow Australian artists, the Beinart Gallery in Melbourne expanded its mission of providing a “curated space for highly skilled figurative artists with a shared fascination for strange and imaginative themes” to “showing internationally established artists with emerging talent” and working to usher in the New Contemporary art movement to Australia. 

For Small Works, the theme is open, but it challenges artists to restrict their contributions to a maximum of 12″ x 12″ in scale. There is some top-notch work coming in for this one, and while there are plenty of established names we love and recognize, the amount of impressive talent whose work we are being introduced to for the first time is what we find most exciting. The following description is taken from the press release for the exhibition.

Small Works 2025 presents a diverse collection of new works by both celebrated artists and exciting newcomers making their debut at the gallery. This carefully curated showcase is a treasure trove for collectors and art enthusiasts alike. The small format invites artists to explore new themes and techniques, while offering collectors a rare opportunity to acquire affordable, high-quality pieces from both established figures and rising stars.

Small Works 2025 opens on Saturday, August 16th, and runs until September 7th, 2025.
