HI-Fructose Invitational @ Roq La Rue Gallery [Seattle]

For it’s 20th anniversary the highly revered art publication showcases work by an impressive roster of artists working in new contemporary art world

We are longtime admirers of Hi-Fructose Magazine, and thanks to whoever stocks the magazine section at the local PCC market, I’m still able to find new issues relatively easily. This year, the quarterly arts publication turns 20 years old, and to celebrate, an international group exhibition is opening this weekend at Roq La Rue Gallery in Seattle. Hi-Fructose group shows aren’t anything out of the ordinary; these annual invitationals have been held for years, albeit in various cities and galleries. That said, the 20th anniversary is obviously monumental. Plus, when we attended the Hi-Fructose Invitational 14 years ago, it was held at a former Roq La Rue location in town, so I’m delighted to see it return. The roster of talent for these is always top-notch, and the contributions are consistently remarkable. When it comes to honoring such an important and highly revered publication, those invited to contribute are compelled to outdo themselves.

Artist and Hi-Fructose Co-Founder, Annie Owens states the following:

“Hi-Fructose has always embraced genre-blurring approach, spotlighting artists across pop surrealism, blue-chip, lowbrow, street art, figurative, narrative, and many other styles—allowing them to converge seamlessly in one place. By highlighting of some of the remarkable artists featured between its pages over the past two decades, Hi-Fructose magazine marks a milestone, twentieth year in print with this show!”

Participating artists include:
Alvaro Naddeo, Anthony Hurd, Bella Ormseth, Bjorn Lie, Daniel “Attaboy” Seifert, Dustin Myers, Eric Werts, Esao Andrews, James Lipnickas, Laura Laine, Michael Koehler, Miles Johnston, Peter Ferguson, Syd Bee, Beth Cavener, Casey Curran, Aron Wiesenfeld, Christina Mrozik, Cinta Vidal, Amandine Urruty, Chris Berens, Amy Sol, Lee Gihun, Chet Zar, Janice Sung, Isabel Samaras, Charlie Immer, Mike Davis, Vorja Sánchez, Jennybird Alcantara, and Max Seckel
