DAVID WELKER – Announces NEW YEAR Risograph Show & Print Release
The NYC-based visual artist is starting 2025 off by showcasing a new collection of risograph work, which goes live at his website on January 6th.
David Welker has been a highly accomplished visual artist for decades, beginning his career with large-scale paintings in the late 1980s. Many of us first became aware of Welker through his mesmerizing and iconic cover art for the 1993 PHISH album, Rift, but while he continues to be sought after for music-related projects, since his triumphant return to rock poster art in 2009, his resume extends well beyond that. You may have seen previews we’ve posted for his fine art solo exhibitions hosted in cities ranging from San Francisco and New York to Melbourne at such notable venues as Harman Projects and the Beinart Gallery.
Tomorrow, January 6th, David will start the year by posting an intimate show on his website, through which the pieces will also be available for purchase. The NYC-based illustrator/muralist/painter/poster artist has established skills in various mediums, and this time around he’ll be showcasing a collection of risograph prints. In his latest newsletter, Welker explains that he’s been dedicating his energy toward perfecting this discipline. “I’ve been working hard to bring my Riso game to the next level and I feel very good about how these came out.“
This new riso work exudes the same trademark depression-era surrealism-meets underground comix aesthetic he’s known for. These pieces consist of all new images, with the exception of the PHISH-related, “Gamehendge Football“: a Rift-era contribution from 1992, now translated into riso form.
These are expected to move fast, so you’re probably going to want to set your alarms for this one. The show goes live at 1pm ET / 10am PT on WelkerStudios.com.
You can check out all of the prints that are going to be available by viewing our preview below. Note that the final image, “Airplane Fish” can only be obtained as a bonus INCLUDED FREE WITH ORDERS OF 3 OR MORE PRINTS.
