Hardcore Rap Battle: Beastie Boys’ Adam “MCA” Yauch Fights Cancer
The Beastie Boys made their first Bonnaroo appearance, are scheduled to perform at San Francisco‘s Outside Lands Festival, and have been hyping a new release titled, Hot Sauce Committee Part 1… all this year. The 3 MC‘s have been going strong for over 25 years and have always been some of the most consistent innovators in their craft. Nothing has ever been able to slow them down… until now.
Just a mere few hours ago, a message to fans was posted on the front page of the Beastie Boys‘ official website. The video [posted below] features Adam “Adrock” Horovitz and Adam “MCA” Yauch delivering some tragic news, in a light-hearted manner. After experiencing some irritation and gland swelling in his throat, MCA paid a visit to his physician who, subsequently, discovered the presence of cancer. The news is shocking, but Yauch does his best to minimize any worry and assures that it is easily treatable. The Outside Lands appearance will be canceled and Hot Sauce Committee Part 1, which features a appearance by NAS, will have a postponed release.
{notice the brief mention of an Adrock side project}

So…. that’s pretty fucking terrible. Since we have dropped your spirits with such negativity, stress, and worry, I felt that the best way to lift the spirits back up is to play a few videos from the classic releases, License to Ill and Paul’s Boutique. These memories work as a great example of how fresh their old tracks still sound, even 20 years later.
