Tonight PHISH played their first ever show at Fenway Park in Boston (aka: Phenway).  We caught the Brooklyn shows about 5 years ago, which were held at a the Brooklyn Cyclones‘ Single-A baseball stadium, but, this time around, it seems like a whole other animal.  Reviews are already coming in and the word is that they are officially back on their game.

Speaking of game, there was an extremely heavy baseball vibe to go along with the venue.  The photo of the tickets above was taken by our writer Dr. J., who attended the show.  Mail order PHISH Tickets always have a special twist on them but these are definitely some of the most unique that I’ve ever seen.

We have already posted the set-list as well as sendspace links to downloads of each set of the show.  Below is also live video footage of the guys playing “Ocelot” [a brand new track] as well as “The Ballad of Curtis Loew“, which they haven’t  played in 624 shows (Aug. 2, 1993 The Ritz Theatre, Ybor City, FL). Worst Places to be High on Acid in Seattle (Volume 1)

Posted by Dead C | Global Destruction,PSA | Thursday 21 May 2009 9:53 pm

elvis-bogb-by-ron-english*original post created 12-11-08 for a sketchy website that breaches contracts and refuses to pay their freelancers in a timely manner*

I know how reckless you crazy kids are today, with your LSD and your magic mushrooms. You smoke your salvia divinorum, get “digital” with your delinquent adolescent cronies off that Dimethyltryptamine, and liquid dance all night to happy-hardcore beats while hopped up on synthetic mescaline and designer drugs likes 2C-I.

Nobody’s going to tell you what to do, with your teenage attitudes and misguided views of invincibility. I’m not even going to try to attempt it.  What I am going to do, however, is break a few things down for you as far as hallucinogens go.

1) The environment is possibly the most important factor in how your night is going to turn out.

2) There are some locations that will increase the likelihood of your experience going South fast.

3) The “best” places to trip out are also often the “worst” and vice-versa.

Here are some of the riskiest spots to get spun out and act-a-fool in the Seattle area. (more…)

The Vaselines

May 12th 2009

Neumos

Seattle

Somehow, I had completely forgotten about The Vaselines coming to Seattle.  I knew about the show, but forgot that the date was coming up so quickly until I was reminded by an email from Sound Magazine.  I would be cutting it close by sending a  press request to our contact at the venue, so I entered Sound‘s contest by replying to the email and won the tickets.  We’ve given away a handful of tickets this year and get passes to review concerts regularly, but there’s just something about “winning” the tickets.  I don’t think I’ve actually “won” anything through a random contest since I was about 7 or 8 years old.  I peeled back a decal in a Chips Ahoy!Betcha Bite a Chip” contest to reveal 2 chocolate chips.  The prize was a mini-set of Kinex; not enough to really build anything.  This prize turned out to be a hell of a lot more satisfying. The Bordeaux Twins – Living and Loving (Together) [VIDEO]

Posted by Dead C | Comedy,Music,With Video | Tuesday 12 May 2009 7:03 pm

the-bordeaux-twins

Earlier today, I recieved the following message from NY artist/director/writer/etc. Todd Lamb

Hi Dead C,

How’s it going? I wanted to send this new video I just made to you. It’s the new song from The Bordeaux Twins, from Upright Citizens Brigade in NYC. Called “Living and Loving (Together)”.

Here’s the video:

On the Bordeaux Twins offical site, it states the following about the duo:

The Bordeaux Twins are Dennis (Matt Evans) and Kenneth (Frank Campanella) Bordeaux. Later this year they will be releasing their debut album “Greatest Hits.” They will also be touring in the near future.

The video is also being featured on Funnyordie.com as of today.  If you would like to vote on whether or not you feel this video is “FUNNY” or, in fact, should “DIE” you can do so by clicking HERE.

I originally made contact with Todd Lamb after posting our article called “You Aint Got To Lie Craig” about the truth behind the street “artist”,  calling himself “CRAIG“, who gained global recognition from posting awkward notes around Melbourne, Australia.  The whole concept, along with the majority of text, was blatantly stolen from Lamb‘s original, experimental project “Notes From Chris“.  Ironically enough, much of the hype surrounding CRAIG was also generated through a post on Funny or Die, as well.

Along with sending us the heads up about the video, Lamb also joked, “Hopefully some guy from Australia won’t download it, and put his name over mine in the credits. Ha.

David Berman of Silver Jews: The Lost Interview

Posted by Dead C | Interviews,Music | Monday 11 May 2009 1:25 am

david-berman-seattle

Right off the bat, I’m going to openly and officially claim the proceeding interview as a “success“.  I’m sure that you will all draw your own conclusions and, most likely, many of them will be different than mine.  Many of you will even leave your own comments contradicting my assessment.  I probably didn’t ask the “right” questions as you “would have” and I may not have even gotten the answers that you would have wanted to hear but, if this was a Myspace page, I would be posting a goofy ass little emoticon with some bullshit smiley face next to this article that read “Mood: accomplished“.  To me it is successful.  This interview almost didn’t happen or, more accurately, it ALMOST did happen more times than I could count.

When David Berman formed the group Silver Jews 20 years ago, he did so with cohorts like Stephen Malkmus and Bob Nastanovich.  The production of the early EPs and recordings were extremely low-fi, with the use of such unorthadox recording equipment as a walkmen and answering machines.  By the time the full-lenghth Starlite Walker (1994 Drag City) was released, Malkmus and Nastanovich had already made a name for them selves in the band Pavement and the Silver Jews were wrongly classified by many as a Pavement side-project.  Regardless of the facts that the two bands were very separate entities and that Berman was the primary driving force  behind the group, David lived with that tag stapled to his forehead for the better part of the following decade.  Although Malkmus was again featured on the 1998 release, American Water, “The Joos” were comprised of a revolving door of musicians over their 20 year stint.  Throughout that time, Berman overcame struggles with crack addiction and even a suicide attempt.  Eventually, he would even make a conversion to Judaism.  In many ways, these became just more incidents that overshadowed the work of the prolific songwriter and poet.
